Seven incumbents were at the Grundy County Courthouse this morning to file for elections this year.

Today is opening day for candidates to file for county, district, and statewide offices. The candidates for county offices file with their respective county clerks’ offices. Candidates seeking state representative, state senate, U-S Congress, or a statewide office file with the Secretary of State in Jefferson City.

The filing period for all of the offices closes March 29th.

First to arrive at the Grundy County Courthouse this morning was Joe Brinser who seeks re-election as second district commissioner. Others filing for re-election were First District Commissioner Gene Wyant; Sheriff Rodney Herring; Assessor Kathy Veatch; Collector-Treasurer Barb Harris; Public Administrator Jill Eaton; and Coroner Dwayne Slater. Each filed on the Republican party ticket.

Don Sager has also filed for the post of First District Commissioner.  He will challenge Gene Wyant in the August primary.

The county offices are a four year term, with candidates to have their names printed on the August primary ballot.

The candidates nominated by their respective parties in the August balloting then run in Novembers’ general election. Their term of office begins January 1st. (2017)
