Two defendants, who waived preliminary hearings, have their next appearances scheduled for Thursday in the Grundy County Circuit Court.

Hugo Morales-Cruz of Trenton faces charges from an arrest on April 1. He is accused of two felony counts of second-degree assault and three misdemeanors: peace disturbance, resisting/interfering with an arrest, and minor visibly intoxicated.

Lloyd Wayne Shaver of Farmington is charged with a felony for forgery due to the alleged alteration of the value of a victim’s check in February.

Preliminary hearings were waived on Tuesday in the Associate Division of the Grundy County Circuit Court.

Circuit Court Judge Steve Hudson has denied an inmate’s request to vacate, set aside, or correct a judgment that resulted in prison sentences in 2022.

Brandan Bellamy of Trenton was sentenced to 15 years for attempted burglary and seven years for first-degree property damage. A motion to change this judgment was submitted to the court on Monday. Judge Hudson, in dismissing the motion without prejudice on Tuesday, noted that it had been 668 days since the sentencing, surpassing the allowed time limitation of 180 days. He also pointed out that the Supreme Court-mandated form was incomplete, as it had not been signed by the defendant.
