Green Hills area sees worsening drought conditions this week

The drought in the Green Hills area worsened over the week ending Tuesday morning, April 16. According to this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor Map, released on Thursday morning, April 18, the data is based on conditions as of April 16.

As of April 16, moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions had expanded in the Green Hills. Moderate drought covered most of Daviess County, northwest Caldwell County, the northwest corner of Livingston County, most of western Grundy County, and most of Harrison County. The remaining areas of these counties were abnormally dry, as well as all of Linn County, most of Sullivan County, western and northern Mercer County, and northwest Putnam County.

Moderate drought also expanded in northwest, western, and southwest Missouri. Conditions in northeast and central Missouri remained consistent with the previous week. Severe drought diminished in southeast Missouri and was replaced by moderate drought. Some areas of eastern Missouri that were moderately dry last week improved to abnormally dry conditions. Other parts of eastern Missouri that were abnormally dry last week reported no drought or dry conditions as of April 16.

Abnormally dry or drought conditions covered 69.93% of the state, an increase of 1.9% from the previous week.

As of Thursday morning, April 18, Trenton was 2.15 inches behind the average precipitation for the year to date. Trenton received 0.04 inches of rain for the week ending April 16. Between the morning of April 16 and the morning of April 18, Trenton received 0.61 inches of rain.
