The Gilman City R-4 Board of Education on April 17 approved a Career Ladder program for the upcoming school year.

A lawn mowing contract was awarded to Gregg Lawn Service for $300 weekly after receiving a higher bid from Burke Lawncare at $400 weekly.

Keith Preston and Ryan Hulett were sworn into office during the board meeting.

Following the elections, the board announced its reorganization. The officers are now President Keith Preston, Vice President Kristin Rosenbaum, and Secretary Michael Ward.

Jill Sperry, the Elementary School Principal, reported that the elementary basketball season concluded with the Gilman City tournament held on March 22 and 23. The girls’ team completed the season undefeated.

The second graders performed “Nanny Goats Gruff” for parents and other elementary classes around Spring Break.

Additionally, KC Wolf delivered a presentation focusing on the ABCs of Success: Attitude, Behavior, and Character, as relayed by Sperry.

The Missouri Assessment Program testing is underway. The third and fourth graders completed their tests last week, while testing for fourth through sixth graders started this week.

Sperry also noted that teachers are gearing up for summer school and are beginning to organize their schedules for the next academic year.

Brent Mitchell, the High School Principal, reported that the high school academic bowl team placed third at the district competition. The FFA teams performed well at the state level, and the Future Business Leaders of America recently returned from their state competition.

Mitchell also mentioned that the high school prom, held on April 6, was successful.

Following an executive session, it was disclosed that the board had reviewed non-certified contracts and approved rehiring. Extra duty contracts were also reviewed and approved.

A contract offer was made to Kelly Burke for the position of High School Business and FBLA sponsor.
