Gary Redman obit photoGary M. Redman, aged 79, of Gallatin, MO, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Gallatin. Born on November 13, 1944, in Red Oak, IA, he was the son of Earl Leslie and Evelyn (Carlson) Redman. Gary completed his elementary education in Gallatin and graduated from Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, MO, in 1962. A member of the ROTC during his high school years, he enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduation and served overseas in Vietnam. He married Bessie Pauline Boller on January 23, 1965, at the Frazier Baptist Church in Frazier, MO.

Following his service in Vietnam, Gary joined the Air Force, serving as a meteorologist for 16 years and achieving the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1987. Throughout his military career, Gary and his family were stationed in Grandview, MO; Germany; Omaha, NE; and Altus, OK. After retiring from the military, he worked as a truck driver, a meat cutter for Kirkendolls and Rains Meats, a school bus driver and janitor for the Gallatin School District, and was employed at the Daviess County Country Club. He was an active member of the National Rifle Association and served as Commander of the Gallatin VFW 2172 Frank Frazier Post for several years.

Gary was known for his work ethic and pride in his military service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, target practice, and computerized embroidery. An intelligent man, Gary loved to discuss political matters and history. His loss will be deeply felt by his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Carole Anne Redman; and sisters, Lois Pontius and Joyce Monti, Gary leaves behind his wife, Pauline Redman of the home; children, Gerold Redman of Gallatin, MO, Patricia Rupp (Donald) of Bellevue, NE, and Dwight Redman (Jennifer) of Gallatin, MO; grandchildren, Joshua Robinson (Cathy) of Tekamah, NE, Donald Rupp (Jasmine) of Tekamah, NE, Jessica Rupp of Bellevue, NE, Preston Redman (Cody) of Gallatin, MO, Megan Redman of Gallatin, MO, Ceirra Redman of Kirksville, MO, and Erica Redman of Bethany, MO; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale Redman (Evelyn) of Altamont, MO, Lyle Redman of Arkansas City, KS, Dean Redman (Marcia) of Chapel Hill, NC, and David Redman (Jennifer) of St. Joseph, MO; a brother-in-law, Dale Pontius of Ridgeway, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the KAW Fire Department, Kickin’ Cancer with Kindness, or the donor’s choice, care of the funeral home. A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. The family will welcome friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Ayr Cemetery in Altamont. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. Contact: (660) 663-2117.
