Deer avoidance maneuver leads to SUV crash north of Vandalia

On April 14, 2024, at around 10:40 p.m., an accident on Route F, 11 miles north of Vandalia, Missouri, resulted in moderate injuries to a local man. Adam T. Ritter, 35, of Vandalia, was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada when he reportedly swerved to avoid a deer, veered off the road, and struck a tree.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the Oldsmobile sustained extensive damage and was left at the scene. Ritter, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital by Ralls County Ambulance.

The accident drew a coordinated response from the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department and Center First Responders, along with support from Corporal Hicks of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
