Area students do well at FFA competition in Savannah

Trenton and Princeton high schools each had two first place winning FFA teams in career development events judging held Monday at Savannah.

Trenton took top honors in meats and ag sales while Princeton had the top teams in judging horses and the FFA knowledge competition. Other area schools winning first place in the Savannah judging include Hamilton in forestry and nursery-landscape; Braymer in agronomy; and North Harrison of Eagleville in livestock.

Other results for FFA teams from Princeton high school include second place in meats, poultry and soils; and third in dairy cattle. Gallatin took third and Grundy R-5 of Galt was fourth in ag sales. Grundy had a team place fifth in meats. Mercer was fourth and Gallatin fifth in livestock. Hamilton placed third and Jamesport fifth in poultry.

Hamilton was second and Putnam County of Unionville took third in ag mechanics.

Gilman City ranked fourth in soils. Green City placed second in horses. In knowledge, Jamesport fourth, and Trenton fifth.  Jamesport placed fifth in entomology.

Reviewing individual judging, in winning first in ag sales, Trenton students Katarina Black and Kayla Geyer were the top two; and Matana Munday of Grundy R-5 was 3rd. For the first place meats team from Trenton, Jayden Roeder and Hannah Persell from Trenton were the top two, Mady Williams of Galt and Emily Kasinger of Trenton were 3rd and 4th.

For the top ranked knowledge team: Princeton students Mario Vargas, Juan Mejia, and Lacie Lewis were the top three. For first place horses, Princeton students Alison Batson, and Vivian Allen were 1st and 2nd; Andrew Smith 4th. Princeton FFA’ers Lauren Cox and Dale Bagley placed 1st and 3rd in poultry judging.

Logan Boxley of Princeton was 3rd and Gage Sperry of Gilman City placed 4th in soils.
