Ashlen Busick presented a program on the Community Garden to the Trenton Rotary Club at its meeting Thursday.

Busick and her husband Tyler manage the garden located next to the First Christian Church and by the Community Food Pantry in Trenton. The garden provides healthy food and gives those involved a chance to hone their skills as well as learn about the earth.

Volunteers are always welcome to work during the gardening season, which usually runs from mid-April to August with community planting days are scheduled so volunteers can work morning or evening hours.

Busick is looking for an individual with nursery growth knowledge to assist with a fruit tree component. Anyone who helps with the garden in any way or makes a donation are allowed to receive food from it noting vegetables, strawberries, and flowers are grown there.

There is an agriculture class available starting many of the crops from seeds.

She said the goal of the garden is “uniting the community in growing something good.”

Busick has been interested in the community garden concept since she visited one in Denver, Colorado.

During the business meeting, the Rotary Club talked about Trenton’s Got Talent, which will be at the Trenton High School gym Friday night.

The club is also looking for a family to serve as hosts for the Group Study Exchange Team from Argentina and Paraguay who will be in Trenton April 26 and 27.
