Trenton Police concluded their investigations and released details on Monday morning regarding two accidents that occurred a week ago. The incidents, which took place in Trenton, involved one with injuries to a child.

The first incident occurred on the evening of April 14 at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of West 7th and Van Buren. A child, descending a hill in a red wagon on Van Buren, was struck by a westbound Dodge Dakota driven by 54-year-old Donald Jack Aderholt Junior of Trenton. The impact threw the child from the wagon.

The minor, whose identity has not been disclosed due to age, was initially transported by ambulance to Wright Memorial Hospital and subsequently flown by medical helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Aderholt reported that his view was obstructed by a parked truck, and by the time he noticed the wagon, it was too late. Skid marks at the scene suggest he attempted to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the child.

The second accident occurred the following afternoon, April 15, at around 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of 9th and Kerfoot. It involved two vehicles, both of which were towed from the scene. Frank Golden, 86, of Laredo, was stopped at a stop sign before he proceeded west on 9th Street. Simultaneously, a truck driven by 19-year-old Jaren Dale Zerbe of Gilman City, which was hauling double anhydrous ammonia tankers, traveled east.

The collision impacted the passenger side door of Zerbe’s truck, and Golden’s SUV continued west, striking the wheels of the tanker. This caused the right front wheel of the trailer to detach and land on the hood of the pickup. Golden was issued a municipal summons for failing to yield at a stop intersection. No injuries were reported in this incident.
