The Highway Patrol reports a Saint Joseph woman sustained serious injuries when the vehicle she drove struck multiple guardrails a quarter of a mile west of Chillicothe on Friday night.

Emergency medical services transported 40-year-old Brandy Wilfong to Hedrick Medical Center of Chillicothe before an air ambulance took her to Saint Luke’s on the Plaza in Kansas City.

The vehicle reportedly began to quickly overtake an uninvolved vehicle going slower on eastbound Highway 36, Wilfong steered left in an attempt to avoid striking the other vehicle. Wilfong’s vehicle went across the center line and off the road, struck one guardrail, returned to the road, ran off the right side of the road, and hit a second guardrail. The vehicle came back to the road again before striking a third guardrail and coming to rest facing north.

Moderate damage was reported to the vehicle and the patrol notes Wilfong did not wear a seat belt.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Emergency Services, and Life Flight assisted at the scene of the crash.
