Spickard Board of Education maintains salary schedule

The Spickard R-2 Board of Education adopted the non-certified salary schedule on April 15. There were no changes from the previous year.

The board voted to extend at-will agreements to all current non-certificated employees for the next school year.

The Drury Award winner was approved to be paid a $250 scholarship. The winner will be announced at the Senior Awards Night at Princeton. The Drury Award is presented to the senior from Spickard with the highest grade point average.

Discussion took place regarding hiring for the vacant first and second grade positions and the paraprofessional position. Superintendent Erica Eakes will notify applicants, and an announcement will be made at a later date.

Election results were certified. Ruth Ann Shipps and Melody Chapman took the oath of office for three-year terms. One seat on the board remains vacant.

Officers were elected: President Ruth Ann Shipps, Vice President Melody Chapman, Treasurer Glenn Wilson, and Secretary Angela Hagan. Shipps is the Missouri School Boards Association delegate.

The April Top Pirate is Remington Etter. The Top Teammate is Jackie White.

Years of Service recognition pins were awarded to Shelly Porter and Jackie White, each for 10 years.

Kindergarten through sixth grades will go on a field trip to the Science Center of Iowa in Des Moines on May 9. Parents are welcome to attend and should contact the Spickard School if they are interested.

State testing will take place from April 29 to May 3. District literacy and math testing will occur from May 6 to May 8.

Sixth grade graduation will be on May 10 at 6 p.m. Three students will graduate: Forest Sharp, Jacob Wilson-Hay, and Sophia Persell.

The last day of school will be on May 15. An awards assembly will be held that day at noon, and school will dismiss at 1 p.m.

The Comprehensive School Improvement Plan was discussed. The board will analyze test scores and compile survey data in the coming weeks to gather information that will be used to revise the CSIP in June.

A letter was reviewed from Princeton Superintendent Jerry Girdner regarding a tuition rate increase. The rate will increase from $6,375 per student for the current school year to $6,725 for students already attending Princeton and to $11,000 for new students coming in for the next school year.
