Pleasant View Board of Education boosts teacher salaries for 2024-2025 school year

The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education approved a $1,000 increase to the base certified salary schedule on April 9. Teachers will also be eligible for their step increase on the pay scale for the next school year. The new base salary for the upcoming school year will be $34,500.

Additionally, the board approved a 50-cent increase to the non-certified base salaries and allowed for step increases on the pay scale for the next school year. Secretary Brenda Allnutt noted that different positions have their pay scales, including paraprofessionals, head cooks, cooks, bookkeepers, and custodial staff.

The Career Ladder program was approved for the next school year, with the terms remaining the same as last year. Stage 1 will require 50 hours and will compensate $1,500, Stage 2 requires 75 hours for $3,000, and Stage 3 requires 100 hours for $5,000.

The board accepted a bid from Central States Bus to lease three new buses over five years for $92,708.82 annually.

Approval was given for Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff to apply for a summer school grant, with further details to be finalized at a later date.

Discussion took place regarding health insurance for the next school year, but no action was taken.

The oath of office was administered to new board members Zach Harris and Derek McCauslin for three-year terms, and Jennifer Belvel for a one-year term.

An election for new board officers resulted in Damien Little being named President, Ben Thomas as Vice President, Jennifer Belvel as Treasurer, and Brenda Allnutt as Secretary.

It was announced that the fourth quarter midterm will occur on April 12.

Pleasant View will dismiss early on April 19 for a teacher’s meeting.

Students in sixth through eighth grades will go on a field trip to Hannibal on May 2. Abby Richman’s preschool and kindergarten classes will visit the Kansas City Zoo on May 3. An eighth-grade field trip to Branson is scheduled for May 6 through 8.

Keys Preschool awards will take place on the morning of May 9, with Richman’s preschool awards following that evening.

Eighth-grade graduation is set for May 10.

The all-school awards ceremony will be held on May 13 at 8:30 a.m.

Field Day is scheduled for May 14.

An early dismissal is planned for May 15 at 1:20 p.m., marking the last day of school for Pleasant View.

Following a closed session, the board announced that Superintendent/Principal Steinhoff’s salary would be set at $78,000 for the next school year, an increase from $75,600 for the current school year.

The board approved the transfer of Lindsey Bond from first-grade teacher to school librarian for the next school year and also approved an Individual Academic Plan.
