A regularly scheduled audit of Clark County, located in northeast Missouri, is currently in progress, as announced by Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick. The audit commenced on Thursday, April 18, with an initial meeting held with county officials.

The State Auditor’s Office last evaluated Clark County in 2016, assigning the county a rating of “fair.” The previous audit highlighted the need for enhanced oversight across various offices to maintain accurate and complete records. In the sheriff’s office, the audit recommended implementing more rigorous checks and balances for employees responsible for accounting tasks. It also noted the absence of adequate procedures to prevent potential fund mismanagement and to ensure the collection of certain fees due to the office. Furthermore, issues related to personnel records were identified, including the insufficient review of timesheets by the county clerk.
