Elderly woman injured in bus crash on I-35, near Cameron

A bus accident occurred on Interstate 35 near the Route H overpass, approximately 7 miles south of Cameron, Missouri, on the afternoon of March 28, 2024, at around 4:15 p.m. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2011 Ford E350 bus, driven by Terry E. Burns, 67, of Braymer, Missouri, veered off the east side of the roadway, collided with a concrete construction barrier, and then returned to the road before continuing northbound.

The bus sustained minor damage but was able to be driven from the scene. The driver, who was utilizing a seat belt at the time of the accident, did not report any injuries. However, Carolyn E. Rupe, an 84-year-old passenger from Braymer, Missouri, who is exempt from seat belt requirements, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported from the scene by the same bus to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report indicates that the crash happened as the Ford E350 bus was traveling northbound on I-35. After striking the barrier, the vehicle was able to continue to the medical facility without further incident.
