Dump truck overturns southwest of Paris, driver flown to hospital

An accident left a man severely injured on the afternoon of October 24, 2023, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred approximately 8.5 miles southwest of Paris on Route M around 3:10 p.m., when a 1973 GMC dump truck, driven by Gale L. Wilkerson, 71, of Paris, Missouri, veered off the right side of the road. The report states that Wilkerson overcorrected, causing the truck to travel off the left side of the road and overturn.

Wilkerson, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, suffered serious injuries. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Wilkerson was flown by medical transport to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

The GMC dump truck sustained total damage and was towed from the scene by A1 Towing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the site by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Paris Fire Department.
