Driver from Bevier injured after swerving to avoid deer on Highway 63

In the early hours of March 17, 2024, a single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 63, approximately a quarter mile south of Excello, resulting in minor injuries to a 20-year-old woman from Bevier, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Patricia H. Watkins was driving a 2008 Saturn Aura southbound when she attempted to swerve to avoid a deer, causing her vehicle to veer off the right side of the road and overturn.

Watkins, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered minor injuries and was transported by Macon County Ambulance to Samaritan Hospital for treatment. The Saturn Aura sustained total damage and was towed from the scene by Prather’s Towing of Cairo.

The accident received assistance from multiple agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriff’s Department, Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, and Macon County First Responders.
