Trenton city sales tax receipts decline for the current fiscal year

Trenton city sales tax receipts for the current fiscal year were down more than one percent for general purposes, capital projects, the 17th Bridge replacement project, fire department needs and down a fraction for parks compared to last fiscal year. Trenton’s fiscal year runs from May through April.

City sales tax income for general purposes was down nearly $12,000 in the current fiscal year compared to a year ago with revenue for capital projects declining approximately $6,400. Receipts from the transportation sales tax for the 17th Street Bridge project were down nearly $3,500. Income from the city sales tax for fire department equipment, training, and services was down more than $2,000 and revenue from the parks tax was down about $74.00.

Revenue totals from those various taxes this fiscal year were general purposes slightly over $757,000, capital projects nearly $378,000, parks nearly $351,000, transportation nearly $259,000 and fire department needs about $173,000.

City sales tax income to benefit the Trenton Fire Department began collections in November of 2016 and since that time has totaled nearly $599,000 for equipment, training, and services.

Receipts from the transportation sales tax began collections in November of 2017 and have since generated approximately $627,000. The money goes to pay the local share of the 17th Street Bridge replacement project. Once local payments are completed for the bridge replacement work, transportation tax funds can be used for other street improvement work in Trenton. The transportation sales tax is to be collected for ten years.
