In a meeting held on Monday, March 18, the Spickard Board of Education took several actions. The board approved the payment of March bills totaling $26,799.08 and reviewed the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), deciding to make no changes at this time.

One decision was the adoption of the 2024-2025 school calendar. The school year is scheduled to start on August 21, 2024, and conclude on May 13, 2025. This calendar aims to maximize instructional time while accommodating holidays and professional development days.

In terms of compensation, the board approved an addition of $3,000 to the baseline salary schedule. With this increase, a year-one teacher with a bachelor’s degree will earn $33,500. Spickard will continue to participate in the Teacher Baseline Salary Grant, ensuring all teachers receive a minimum salary of $38,000, contingent on state appropriations for the grant program. The discussion regarding the non-certified salary schedule was postponed until the next month’s meeting.

The board also approved an end-of-the-year field trip for May 9, taking students to Shatto Milk Company in Osborn and Recreation Park in Cameron. This trip is designed to provide students with a fun, educational experience outside the classroom.

Resignations were accepted from Title I teacher Carol Schmidt and 1/2 grade teacher Tami Watt. In addition, the board voted to offer contracts to all current staff for the 2024-2025 school year, demonstrating confidence in their abilities and dedication to the students’ education.

Special recognition was given to February’s Top Pirate, Taralynn Stiner, and Top Teammate, Randy Smith, acknowledging their contributions and excellence in their roles within the school community.
