Congressman Sam Graves announced leadership changes in his Washington, DC and for his Missouri district offices. One of the new people is a Bethany native.

Graves announced Harrison County native Buffy Smith will take on the role of 6th District Director. She will manage the day-to-day operations of the district offices. She previously served for 10 years as Director of Operations until 2014.

Smith grew up on her family’s farm near Bethany and was graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in Political Science. She and her husband Matt have lived in Platte City for 13 years with their children, Kate and Ben. Buffy Smith serves on the Platte County R3 Board of Education and the Platte City United Methodist Church’s Leadership Council. Smith takes over from longtime Chief of Staff and current District Director Tom Brown, who will remain as Senior Advisor.

Graves also named Nancy Peele as Chief of Staff. Peele will lead Graves’ personal offices in both Missouri and Washington, DC. Peele takes over as Chief of Staff from Paul Sass, now the Republican Staff Director for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Peele previously served as Graves’ Deputy Chief of Staff.

A native of Baton Rouge, LA, she has a degree in Communications from Louisiana State University.
