Head-on collision, on Highway P near Durham, leaves two injured

On the afternoon of March 26, 2024, two individuals were hospitalized following a head-on collision on Highway P, approximately two miles southeast of Durham, Missouri. According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident involved a 2013 Ford Fusion, driven by 62-year-old Paul A. Matakovic of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a 2020 Ford F150, operated by 56-year-old Vaughn M. Rennols of Maywood, Missouri.

The investigation revealed that the Ford Fusion, traveling eastbound, veered into the westbound lane for unknown reasons, resulting in a head-on collision with the westbound Ford F150. The impact was severe enough to total both vehicles, necessitating their removal to Robert’s Garage. Both drivers were reported to have been using their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Paul A. Matakovic sustained minor injuries and was transported by Marion County Ambulance to Blessing Hospital for treatment. A passenger in the Ford Fusion, Peggy A. Miller, 67, also from Maywood, Missouri, similarly suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Troopers Smith and Wilt, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and the Marion County Ambulance Service.
