The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a serious accident that took place on Highway 59 within the city limits of Winthrop, Missouri, on March 27, 2024, at around 6:50 p.m. This collision involved a 2019 Ford F350, driven by Bodie L Vandelo, aged 22, from Lancaster, Kansas, and a 1982 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Jeremy R Thompson, a 53-year-old resident of Saint Joseph, Missouri.

According to Trooper C.R. Kottwitz, the crash occurred when the Harley Davidson, traveling eastbound on Highway 59, crossed the centerline into the opposing lane. In an attempt to avoid a direct collision, the motorcycle began to skid but ultimately traveled into the path of the westbound Ford F350. The impact caused Thompson to be ejected from his motorcycle, which subsequently came to rest on its side, facing west.

Jeremy R Thompson suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident and was transported by Buchanan County Emergency Medical Services to Mosaic Life Care for treatment. It was noted that Thompson was wearing safety equipment at the time of the accident.

The Ford F350 sustained minor damage but was able to be driven from the scene. Vandelo, who was also wearing a seat belt, did not sustain any injuries reported at the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by local law enforcement and the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office at the crash site.
