The Grundy County Jewett Norris Library in Trenton will offer a music-influenced Children’s and Young Adult Summer Reading Program this year.

Youth from birth to finishing 11th grade can sign up for the free “Libraries Rock”-themed program in the library’s children’s department May 19th from 10 o’clock in the morning to 1 o’clock in the afternoon or anytime the following week. Youth will need an adult to come with them in order to sign up. The program is open to all youth and not just those from the Trenton area.

Children’s librarian Charity Halstead says events start the morning of May 23 with Tiny Tykes and preschoolers meeting at 9:30 followed by Kindergarteners through second graders at 10:30. The third through 12th grade will meet for the first time May 24th. The youth will meet every Tuesday and Thursday until July 20th.

Activities will include programs on the history of the Missouri Day Festival, Grundy rocks, guitar playing, and seeing the beat as well as a performance by Trenton High School band members.

Anyone interested in presenting a program during the summer reading program should contact the library. Young adult librarian Amy Morton says the library is looking for support from local businesses. The library sends out letters each year seeking monetary donations, so the library staff can buy incentives to put in the library store. Coupons from businesses will also be accepted. Company names and logos will appear in all publicity for the event.
