The Grundy County Health Department in Trenton will hold a free car seat check later this month.

Three certified technicians from the health department will conduct the check at the health department office April 26th from 10 o’clock in the morning to 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Abby Oberman with the health department says it is preferred that children are brought to the car seat check to offer a complete service, but bringing children is not required. She notes the most important information to know about children is their weight and age. Oberman shares that early car seats were designed to lift up children, so they could see out the window.

Since 1971, she says many advancements have been made in the way of car seats, including laws pertaining to car seats and providing expiration dates for them. She adds that car seats expire because the plastic of which they are made degrades over time.
