Grundy R-5 Board of Education approves employee insurance

The Grundy County R-5 Board of Education discussed health insurance costs for the 2018-2019 school year at its meeting last (Wednesday) evening.

The board approved offering the same plan as the current school year and to pay 100% of the cost for employees. The insurance cost increase will be $574 per employee for the year. The monthly premium will be $536 per month per employee.

The board also approved bids for a new roof on the new high school gym and mowing services.

The approved bid for roofing was from Peyton-Roberts Roofing of $33,195. The bid followed all of the specifications and was the lowest of five bids. The approved bid for mowing for this year was from Chris Novak for $110 per mowing. That includes the high school and elementary school lawns. The bid was the lowest of six received.

The board accepted the resignation of part-time music instructor Bobbie Novak effective at the end of the current school year. The election results were certified, and Alex Peterson and Mike Herrold were administered the oath of office.

The board reorganized with Alex Peterson elected as president, Mike Herrold as vice president, Abe Carver as treasurer, and Tyson Christy as secretary.

In a closed session, the board approved an early graduation request. It also approved extra duty contracts and rehiring all non-certified staff members for the 2018-2019 school year.

Reggie Grindstaff abstained from the vote for Jolene Grindstaff. Alex Peterson and Randy Radcliff abstained from the vote for Megan Peterson. Reggie Grindstaff and Mike Herrold voted no for Gene Schreffler.

The board voted to offer a contract to an individual for the kindergarten through 12th-grade guidance counselor position.

The name will be released when the signed contract is returned.
