The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting this week at Green City that resulted in one person being taken to a hospital.

The incident involving a man from Unionville and his brother from Oskaloosa, Iowa, happened Tuesday night at the Green City Motel and Party Mart.

According to a report provided by KTVO, the victim claims that his brother and the brother’s girlfriend were fighting when he arrived at the motel. As he entered their room, he reportedly overheard his brother threaten to commit suicide. That brother, who had a handgun, then locked himself in the bathroom.

The victim says he kicked the bathroom door open, the door hit his brother in the head, knocking him off balance. That’s when the gun discharged, shooting the victim in the pelvis. He was flown to University Hospital in Columbia where, as of Wednesday night, he was listed in fair condition.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the Green City incident.

The highway patrol has not released names of those involved in the shooting as the investigation continues. Detectives have been to the scene collecting evidence.
