Elderly Maryville woman injured in Highway 71 crash

An 80-year-old Maryville, Missouri, resident, Karen K. Klemme, sustained moderate injuries in a traffic accident on Highway 71, approximately eight miles south of Maryville.

The incident occurred on March 18, 2024, at around 2:04 p.m. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Klemme was driving a 2017 Buick Encore southbound when her vehicle crossed the median, continued across the northbound lanes, and ended up in a ditch off the east side of the highway. The vehicle came to a halt upright, facing southeast.

Klemme was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Following the crash, she was transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph by Nodaway County EMS for treatment of her injuries.

The Buick Encore sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Kizer’s Tow.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office and the Nodaway County Fire Department.
