Princeton Board of Education receives construction update

The Princeton R-5 Board of Education received a construction update at its meeting Monday evening. The school took occupancy of the addition October 31st.

Dennis Gutshall reported that the contractor is finishing details. A leaky valve for the football field irrigation system will be corrected in the spring. Corrections will be made to the slope for the football field drainage system, and additional drains will be installed.

The board approved a change order pending the final invoice to be reviewed by the administration. Princeton R-5 School District finished the construction project about $9,000 under the contingency budget.

An open house for the new additions will be the evening of December 7th from 5 to 7 o’clock.

The board of education approved an updated lease agreement with the Stacy Board. The Stacy Board oversees the management of the Stacy Center, which is open to the public outside of school hours.

The addition of a fourth through sixth-grade elementary staff member at semester break was approved. The position will be for language arts and spelling. The addition is due to an increase in enrollment in fifth grade from 21 students at the beginning of the year to 27 students as of Monday evening. A new staff member will reduce class size at the fifth-grade level.

The board received an update on the School Surplus Auction. More than 70 bidders attended, and the auction generated $2,981.

Activities Director John Goodin gave an update on the Grand River Conference. The board requested more information on the potential cost to add a sport. Princeton currently has a coop arrangement with North Mercer for baseball with that arrangement expiring at the end of 2019.
