North Central Missouri College trustees, during a special meeting Thursday, approved an application to waive a portion of non-federal matching funds required for the Head Start program.

The non-federal share for the 2016 fiscal year is slightly over $487,000 which is less than half of that amount, nearly $212,400, available.

Additional non-federal amounts were anticipated through the end of January, however, with only two months remaining in Head Start’s fiscal year, local Head Start Director Bev Hooker said it appears unlikely the required amount will be received.

In a letter this week to college President Lenny Klaver, Doctor Hooker said several factors can be attributed to the apparent lack of local matching resources. They include a lack of supply donations, reduced amounts of parent participation, and what was listed as end of a partnership with Head Start Trauma Smart.

Strategies to capture additional non-federal resources were being implemented by staff members.

Also during the trustees meeting, Doctor Hooker conducted a brief training session about Head Start program performance standards.
