The Mosaic Life Care Foundation has announced the winner and runners-up from the Northwest Missouri Regional Spelling Bee, held Saturday in St. Joseph.

First place was secured by an eighth grader from the Hamilton School, Eloise Wattenbarger. Second place was awarded to Easton Madron, an eighth grader at the Tarkio School. Third place was claimed by Owen Herzog, a seventh grader from St. Joseph Christian School.

The competition spanned 11 rounds, with Wattenbarger emerging as the victor after correctly spelling “corral.” She now qualifies to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will take place in National Harbor, Maryland, in late May.

Saturday’s spelling bee featured the top 26 spellers from 13 northwest Missouri counties and was hosted at emPowerU in St. Joseph.

The next Northwest Missouri spelling bee is scheduled for March 1, 2025.
