USDA rural development officials were at Black Silo Winery in Trenton Tuesday to recognize Black Silo’s participation in a USDA grant program.
The grant was obtained through the Rural Energy for America Program known as REAP, which provides 25% of the costs for agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems, or to make energy efficiency improvements.
Black Silo LLC was the recipient of a $9,600 grant towards the cost to purchase and install 48 solar panels on the roof of its events center at the winery.
Black Silo contributed nearly $29,000 towards the project of slightly over $38,000.
The solar panels were installed this summer.
