The 2016 Beef Producers Seminar will be held on Saturday, November 5th, at the United Producers Inc. sale facility north of Maryville, Missouri.
With this new meeting location, will be a trade show, live animal displays and demonstrations that begin at 2:00 p.m. and continue through the afternoon. At 4:00 p.m. we will turn our attention to the sale ring area where local veterinarians will be performing ultrasound pregnancy checks, ultrasound fetal sexing, pre-breeding exams, and other pre-breeding work on live animals chute-side. Additionally, industry representatives will be on hand to explain taking proper BVD (bovine viral diarrhea) samples and genetic sampling.
Dr. Jared Decker, Assistant Professor and State Beef Genetics specialist with University of Missouri Extension, will be discussing, how easy genetic sampling is, as well as what do I do with the results once I get them, whether you are raising replacement heifers, selling bulls, selling calves at weaning or yearlings, or retaining ownership til harvest. Dr. Decker will also be discussing the genetic, performance and carcass information that has been gathered from the beef herd located at the MU Thompson Farm in North Central Missouri over the past several years. Based on carcass data, the steers from the MU Thompson Farm have performed as well as any in the country.
Dr. Craig Payne, Veterinarian, and Associate Extension Professor, with the University of Missouri Extension, will discuss the fast approaching changes to the Veterinary Feed Directive that will impact medicated feed suppliers, veterinarians, and livestock producers effective January 1, 2017.
Area cattleman’s organizations, pharmaceutical companies, beef cattle industry representatives and the Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Program will have booths set up for attendees to visit before, during and after the program. The cost of admission to the event is $25 per person and includes a ribeye dinner. Pre-registration is requested by November 2, 2016. For those companies or individuals wanting to display their products and information and producers wanting to display some of their animals for area cattleman to see, the cost is $50 per booth or pen and includes a complimentary rib eye dinner for one attendee.
