Services set for Chuck Haney of Chillicothe

Chillicothe Mayor Chuck Haney died Saturday at Hedrick medical center in Chillicothe, he was 81.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday evening at 5:30 at St. Columban’s Catholic Church in Chillicothe with burial in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Wheeling. A parish rosary is scheduled for Monday, May 7 at 5:30 at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe followed by visitation at 6 o’clock. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bishop Hogan School or St. Columban’s Restoration Fund in care of Lindley Funeral Home.

Survivors in this area, include a daughter, Kathy Carlton and a son, Kevin Haney, both of Chillicothe.

Haney was elected Chillicothe Mayor in 2007 and was serving his sixth term. His prior position was as City Councilman. Haney spent most of his adult life as a journalist in print and radio working for the Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune Newspaper for 34-years, including editor and publisher from 1980 to 1998. Haney worked for, or appeared on programs at several area radio stations, including KTTN and our sister station KGOZ. He also worked in television and was a public address announcer at sports events.

Chuck Haney was inducted into the Missouri Press Association Hall of Fame in 2008 for exemplary contributions to the newspaper industry and strong community involvement. He was a President of the Northwest Missouri Press Association, the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Press Association Foundation.

Haney was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
