The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance and the Missouri Department of Conservation will co-sponsor a youth fishing derby on Saturday, June 4th at the Livingston County Fairgrounds in rural Chillicothe.  The fishing derby is being held in conjunction with the North Central Missouri hunting and fishing collectible show on June 3rd and 4th at the fairgrounds.

The fishing derby will be from 9 to 1 o’clock on June 4th.  Children ages 15 and younger receive a gift upon registration and more prizes will be drawn at the conclusion of the derby.  Registration will begin that morning at 8:30.

Adults will be able to assist the children in casting, and if needed, provide minimal assistance when a fish is brought ashore.  However, only the children will be allowed to “fish”.

The derby will be at the pond on the south end of the fairgrounds, adjacent to Highway 190.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will provide fishing poles, equipment, and bait for children who do not have gear.  Dip nets, for children to catch amphibians and aquatic insects, will also be provided.  In addition, there will be games challenging youth to ID various fish and tree species.

The youth will receive a free hot dog and chip lunch.

While the fishing derby is outdoors, the hunting and fishing collectible show, on June 3rd (1 PM – 6 PM) and June 4th (8 AM – 3 PM) will be inside the Jenkins Building on the fairgrounds.
