Walmart has announced it will limit the number of customers that can be in one store at the same time. The company reports stores will allow no more than five customers per 1,000 square feet at one time, which is about 20% of a store’s capacity.

Associates are to mark a queue at a single-entry door and direct arriving customers there. The customers will be admitted one by one and counted. Associates and signage will remind customers of social distancing while waiting to enter. Once a store reaches capacity, customers will be admitted inside on a “1-out-1-in” basis.

Walmart is also to institute a one-way movement through its aisles in some of its stores next week using floor markers and direction from associates. After customers check out, they will be directed to exit through a different door than they entered to help lessen customers passing each other closely.
