UTV crash south of Chillicothe injures three

The highway patrol reports two people were seriously hurt and a third person received minor injuries when a UTV overturned in a field south of Chillicothe.

The driver, 56-year old William Englert of Ida, Arkansas, was flown by medical helicopter from Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe to st. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City with serious injuries. Englert’s brother, 53-year old Daniel Englert of Chillicothe, was taken by private vehicle to Hedrick Medical Center with serious injuries. He was a passenger on the UTV. Another passenger, 54-year old Jerry Ballantyne of Chillicothe, was taken by ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center, treated for minor injuries, and released.

The crash happened Saturday night on private property four miles south of Chillicothe, off Livingston County Road 420, as the four-passenger UTV was traveling across a field, the driver accelerated and turned sharply, causing the UTV to overturn onto its passenger side.

None of the occupants were wearing safety equipment and damage to the UTV was listed as minor.
