United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director Jeff Case announced Thursday that the USDA is investing more than $1,200,000 to improve rural healthcare in Grundy County.

The Rural Development investment will be used to install a heating and cooling system and energy-efficient windows at the Grundy County Nursing Home District of Trenton. The new system will reduce utility costs and allow residents to control heating and cooling on an individual basis.

Case commended the Grundy County Nursing Home District for investing in a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system for the facility and said USDA Rural Development is excited for the impact the improvements will have on nursing home residents.

Case made the announcement in coordination with a nationwide announcement from Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett who announced the USDA is investing $501,000,000 in 60 projects to help improve health care infrastructure and services in rural communities through the Community Facilities direct loan program.

Hazlett’s funding announcement came as part of the USDA’s commemoration of National Rural Health Day, which is held annually on the third Thursday of November to focus on the specific health care issues facing rural communities.

The announcement also complemented the finalization of a partnership between the USDA and the National Rural Health Association to identify issues causing financial strain on rural hospitals.
