Unionville man to be inducted into Livestock Person of the Year Hall of Fame

A veterinarian from Unionville will be inducted into the Missouri Livestock Symposium’s Livestock Person of the Year Hall of Fame.

Doctor Fon Owings will be honored at the Missouri Livestock Symposium in Kirksville December 1.  He is the 15th person to be selected for the honor based on his contributions to the livestock industry in northeast Missouri and beyond.

Owings was the Veterinarian in Charge for the Putnam County Feeder Calf Sale from 1960 to 1990, the Unionville Livestock Market and Unionville Sale Barn for 55 years, and the Centerville, Iowa Livestock Market for 30 years.

He has also served as a member of the Unionville City Council, the Unionville mayor for two terms in the 1970s, as a member of the Farmers Bank Board of Directors, a 4-H beef project leader, and a supporter of the Putnam County Junior Livestock Sale.

He has also received awards, including the Farmers Friend of the Year as well as being honored at the Missouri Livestock Symposium.
