Grundy County’s unemployment rate went up slightly during May when compared to April.

The latest information from the division of employment security shows the Grundy County rate at three point nine percent last month. That’s based on 190 persons unemployed out of a civilian labor force of nearly 49 hundred in Grundy County.

The three point nine is equal to the Missouri unemployment rate.

The new Grundy County rate is two-tenths of a point higher than it was in April (3.7% and 188 unemployed). However, the rate for this past May is still lower than in May of last year when unemployment stood at four point one percent in Grundy County with 211 unemployed.

Only a few area counties have unemployment rates that were higher than the May rate for the state of Missouri which is 3.9%.

Linn County is five point four percent; Sullivan County is four point six percent; Carroll County reports four point three percent unemployment.

Other area counties have rates that are equal to, or below, the state average include Putnam and DeKalb counties are at three point nine percent; Caldwell is three point seven; Harrison and Clinton are three point six; Mercer County is three and a half; Daviess and Chariton are three point four; and Livingston County comes in at three point one percent for May unemployment.
