Two drivers were injured Monday in a Highway 136 accident, two miles to the west of Bethany.

The highway patrol reports injuries as moderate for 26-year-old Caleb Rustin of Des Moines, Iowa and minor for 42-year-old Heather Fenton of McFall. An ambulance transported Rustin to the Liberty Hospital and Ms. Fenton was taken to Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany.

Investigators report Ms. Fenton was driving a westbound pickup that was pulling a horse trailer and Rustin was driving an eastbound box truck. Ms. Fenton attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 69 but allegedly turned into the path of the approaching truck. The box truck began to skid as the driver steered to the right trying to avoid contact. But the two vehicles, according to the patrol, collided head-on. The impact caused the box truck to go off the south side Highway 136 and into a ditch. The pickup and horse trailer came to a stop on the road.

Both trucks were demolished in the Harrison County accident just past 11 o’clock Monday morning.

Assisting were the Harrison County sheriff’s department and Bethany Police.
