The Highway Patrol reports two individuals died and three three others sustained serious injuries as the result of a three-vehicle accident half a mile north of Marceline Friday morning.

A car driven by forty-seven-year-old Shauna Gauthier of Bucklin crested a hill on southbound Missouri 5 when she crossed the center line, struck a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Jeremy Maddox of Marceline head on totaling both vehicles. She then struck a pickup truck parked on the southbound shoulder owned by a resident of Brookfield.

The Patrol reports the pickup did not receive any damage and was driven from the scene. The owner of the pickup is unknown.

The Linn County Coroner pronounced Maddox and his wife 24-year-old Jessika Maddox of Marceline dead at the scene. They were transported to the Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline.

Their son, four-year-old Riley Maddox of Marceline, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight Eagle to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Gauthier and her granddaughter seven-year-old Olivia Salgado of Marceline received serious injuries. They were also transported to the University of Missouri Hospital by Air Evac.

The Patrol reports none of the Maddoxes wore a seat belt at the time of the accident, while Gauthier and Salgado did.
