Two Chillicothe city employees honored for service

Two employees of the city of Chillicothe have been honored for their work respectively with the Chillicothe Street Department and the Chili Bay Water Park.

Jeff Gillespie has been with the street department for 15 years and is now the assistant street commissioner. He was selected as the City of Chillicothe’s Employee of the Year for 2016. Mrs. Janice Shaffer, the manager of the water park that drew more than 3,400 guests this past season, was honored as the runner-up for the Employee of the Year award.

Gillespie received a $1,000 check, two extra paid days of vacation and a family season pass to Chilli Bay Water Park.

Mrs. Shaffer, who formerly served a number of the years on the Parks and Recreation board, has been the manager of the water park since it opened in 2013. She was presented with a check for $100. During the school year, Mrs. Shaffer is a teacher with the Chillicothe R-2 school district.

In addition, 13 city of Chillicothe employees received service awards ranging from five years up to 40 years. Each of those employees received a gift card ranging from $25 for five years of service to $200 for 40 years of service.
