The highway patrol reports two vehicles sideswiped last night in Caldwell County injuring both drivers from Breckenridge.

The patrol listed injuries as serious for 19-year-old Nicholas Kelsey of Breckenridge who was flown by a medical helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.  15-year-old Raven Kepner of Breckenridge received what the patrol called minor injuries and was transported by an ambulance to the Cameron Regional Medical Center.

The patrol stated both vehicles were northbound on Des Moines Road when Kelsey’s pickup attempted to pass Kepner but lost control causing his vehicle to sideswipe the other. The report indicated Kelsey’s truck traveled off the east side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned coming to rest on its top partially blocking the road. Kepner’s vehicle came to a controlled stop on the road.

Kelsey’s pickup truck was demolished. Kepner’s vehicle sustained moderate damage.

The accident happened 7:15 pm Tuesday nigh, three miles west of Breckenridge. The report indicates Kepner was using a safety device while Kelsey was not.

The highway patrol was assisted by the Caldwell county sheriff’s department, Caldwell county emergency medical services, and the Hamilton  and Breckenridge fire departments.
