Trenton’s Planning and Zoning Commission last evening approved two requests involving the proposed location of a new Green Hills Women’s Shelter.

Approval was given to a minor sub-division allowing Evelyn Trickel to sell three and three-quarter acres in the south part of Trenton. No further action is needed on this request. The Planning and Zoning board is recommending approval of a rezoning request for that area: changing it from heavy industry to the designation known as mixed use. That request will be forwarded on to the Trenton City Council which is to consider an ordinance finalizing the change.

Five members of the planning and zoning board attended the public hearing.

Guests included Tammy Taylor of Green Hills Women’s Shelter, and two of the board members: Rex Ross and Dave Bain. Others present as observers were Jackie Soptic of the Regional Planning Commission and Tommy Wright of the Trenton Police Department.

It was reported that the Women’s Shelter has sold the Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits at the 70% deduction level. Proceeds will supplement other funding sources for construction of the new building. Once the land has been purchased, construction bids are to be sought. It also was noted that Green Hills Women’s Shelter still offers domestic violence tax credits which are at a 50% tax deduction level.
