Trenton man in possession of 47 firearms arrested on weapons and drug charges

Multiple weapons and drug charges have been filed against a Trenton man stemming from an investigation that authorities indicate began last May.

35-year-old Samuel Joseph Southers is held at the Grundy County Detention Center in lieu of $175,000 cash bond.

Southers was arrested Wednesday and is scheduled to appear November 22 in the Associate Division of Grundy County circuit court.

Southers is facing two counts of unlawful use and possession of a firearm as well as three counts of possession of controlled substances with an alleged intent to distribute – all on May 2nd. The drugs were listed as methamphetamine, marijuana, and hydrocodone.

Southers is accused of possessing 47 firearms while in possession of the controlled substances. He’s also accused of possessing the 47 firearms while in an alleged intoxicated or drugged condition.

Court records indicate the case was investigated by the NITRO task force officers and special agent; members of the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, the highway patrol, and a state patrol criminologist.
