The Trenton High School Percussion Orchestra recently traveled to Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa to participate in Graceland Percussion Day.
The event was free of charge and included 4 masterclasses taught by Dr. Scott Herring, Professor of Percussion at the University of South Carolina, Award-winning Irish Percussionist, Cara Wildman, Dr. Chris McWilliams, Freelance Percussionist from New York City, and Professor Melinda Leoce from Graceland University.
The Trenton High School Percussion Orchestra also received a 45-minute clinic session with Professor Leoce where she gave feedback on their piece that they are taking to contest.
The Percussion Orchestra will be performing “Sofapilla” by Chuck Ricotta at the THS Pre-Contest Concert on March 10th. The Concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will also include performances by the THS Brass and Woodwind Choirs as well as the THS Symphonic Band.
The Brass Choir will be performing “Celebration in Brass” by Brian Olson, the Woodwind Choir will perform “Sea Chanteys – 1” by Franklin Haspiel. The THS Symphonic Band will end the performance with “Soar High” by Ed Kiefer, “Matters of Kindness” by Kenley Kristofferson, and “Crush” by Robert W. Smith.
Dr. Trent Hollinger from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri and Dr. Christopher Brandt from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa will be the judges for the Pre-Contest Concert. They will be giving feedback that will be helpful as these groups continue preparing for State Contest on March 31st at the Platte County High School.
