This is Severe weather awareness week for Missouri and as such, Missouri State Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will hold the annual tornado drill Tuesday morning, March 3, 2020.

The drill is scheduled for 10 o’clock Tuesday morning and Grundy County’s Emergency Management Director Glen Briggs reports the city of Trenton will participate with the sounding the storm sirens.

Local all-hazards weather radio and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will be activated to signal the start of the drill and all schools and businesses are encouraged to participate. Residents should treat the drill as if it were an actual tornado warning. The purpose of the drill is to test everyone’s readiness for life-threatening severe weather events such as tornadoes, flash floods, and damaging winds.

According to the weather service website for Kansas City, each day this week is designated for a special observance. This includes receiving weather information today, tornado information on Tuesday, information on lightning during the day on Wednesday, wind and hail threats Thursday and the Friday topic concerns flooding.
