Three individuals were honored as distinguished alumni for North Central Missouri College at the NCMC Foundation Voyage Fund Pirates Ball Saturday night. The 2019 Distinguished Alumni Class is made up of Kevin Bailey, Loma Hurst, and Sam Smith.

Bailey said he has “been fortunate to experience and appreciate” the college at several levels. The first was as a student before transferring to Missouri Western State College.

Loma Hurst was a secretary to Dean of Vocational and Technical Education Gean Porter when the college was in one building. She noted the school had a small student body when she started her position, and her office was moved several times with changes and construction. She also mentioned the college did not have a foundation or many contributors at that time.

Hurst believes Dean Gean Porter and President Doctor William Ray would be proud of what the college has become.

Sam Smith said his mother in law talked him into going to school after he came back from Vietnam.

Master of Ceremonies Chad Boyd said Bailey, Hurst, and Smith have each “made a lasting impression on the college, community, region, and state.”
