Authorities in Chillicothe removed three young children from a residence after discovering disturbing safety hazards during a search warrant execution on August 9, 2024. The investigation stemmed from a paper service attempted by Deputy Taylor West of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department on August 8, 2024, in the 700 block of Vine Street, Chillicothe.
While attempting the paper service, Deputy West noticed concerning living conditions in the home where several young children resided. The discovery prompted further action, leading to a collaborative effort by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, Chillicothe Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Children’s Division to serve a search warrant on the residence.
During the search, authorities uncovered various safety hazards that posed significant risks to the children’s well-being. As a result, the three children were removed from the home for their safety, and two adults were taken into custody.
Curtis Burton, 34, and Misty Miller, 34, both residents of Chillicothe, were arrested in connection with the investigation. They were transported to the Caldwell County Detention Center, where they were held. Within 24 hours, warrants were issued for both individuals, charging them with Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating Substantial Risk in the First Degree, First Offense, and No Sexual Contact. Bond for each individual has been set at $2,500 cash only. Both Burton and Miller remain incarcerated at this time.
