Texas man arrested in shooting at motel in Bethany, victim life-flighted

Two felony charges were filed today against a man from Texas following investigation of an alleged shooting Sunday in Bethany.

Twenty-one-year-old Jackson Mateo Miesse of Dallas, Texas is charged with assault in the first degree by causing serious physical injury to another person. He’s also charged with armed criminal action and misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

A bond hearing is scheduled Wednesday at 11 am in the Associate Division of the Harrison County Circuit Court.

Media outlets report the defendant is accused of shooting multiple times into the chest of another person identified as William C. Philley.

Bethany Police reported the shooting occurred at about 4 o’clock in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel. Miesse allegedly fled the scene after the shooting but was captured Sunday night. The victim was reportedly flown by air ambulance to a hospital for emergency surgery.
