The Friends of Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge in partnership with the Refuge sponsored the Wildlife in Habitat Art Contest.  There were 112 entries in the contest.

Hale Public School had 83 entries and for having the most entries were awarded a $100 donation from the Friends of Swan Lake NWR to support their art program.

There were two categories K-5th Grade and 6th -8th grade.  The K-5 winners were Caeli Whitson, Homeschooler;  Kealee French and Jules Ford of Central Elementary, Chillicothe.  The 6-8 winners were Morgan Miller, Homeschooler; Desi Campos and Ethan Hoerr of Hale Public School.

The winners were selected by the over 200 participants at the June 2 First Fridays at the Refuge event.  The winners will receive cash prizes and a First Friday’s at the Refuge T-shirt which is available at the Friends of Swan Lake NWR gift shop located in the refuge visitor center.

The art work will be on display at the Swan Lake NWR Visitor Center through Sunday June 18, 2017.  The visitor center hours on weekends are Saturday 10 AM – 8 PM and Sunday 12 PM – 8 PM.  Be sure to come by and take a look at all the art and support our area artist.

The contest was so successful the Friends of Swan Lake plan to make it an annual event so be on the lookout next spring for announcements.
